DEVELOPING SMART AND GREEN PORTS: THE FUTURE OF RESILIENT, SUSTAINABLE, AND SMART TRANSPORT
Overview

On Thursday 27th of April 2023, the workshop titled “DEVELOPING SMART AND GREEN PORTS: THE FUTURE OF RESILIENT, SUSTAINABLE, AND SMART TRANSPORT”, will be held as next step of the PORTS PLUS project process.

This appointment of the project will take place at Hotel Cattaro, in Kotor (Montenegro) and will see the participation of partner institutions, i.e. ITS Logistica Puglia as lead partner (Italy), Javna ustanova Univerzitet Crne Gore – University of Montenegro (Montenegro) and the Albanian Institute of Transport (Albania).  

Furthermore, a number of high-level speakers will take part in the debates in order to give an interesting and extensive angle about the new challenges related to the smart and green ports. In particular, the workshop will be an opportunity to deepen trending topics, such as: new perspective of the programme area oriented to the smart and green ports, using IPA projects to support the development of greener and smarter ports in Albania, an overview on development trends of the seaports, mitigating the environmental impact of oil spills through effective prevention and response strategies, PM pollution monitoring from cruise ships in Kotor Bay, and global aspects of decarbonization of shipping and ports.

The meeting will start with the greetings of the dean of the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor of the University of Montenegro, Prof. Dr. Špiro Ivošević, followed by the presentation of the project coordinator from the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Danilo Nikolić. The discussion, moderated by Dr. Maja Škurić and MSc Radmila Gagić, will be organised in three different sessions.

The aim of this workshop is to involve relevant interest groups from Montenegro, Italy and Albania through presentations and discussions, who will present activities in the field of maritime transport and logistics, the work of public and private transport operators, and will also elaborate on the challenges that have affected maritime transport economy during and after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and recent EU and international regulations calling for a new growth plan aimed at transforming the EU into a carbon-free economy by 2050.
